An element is something that cannot be broken down into more fundamental substance. It is, therefore, the most fundamental or basic structure that makes a substance what it is, with all its inherent properties and qualities.
In psychology, our psyche is covered with layers after layers of thoughts, beliefs, assumptions, fears and other stuff that makes us less than what we truly are. They also prevent us from seeing and understanding ourselves because they hide or "cover over" our most fundamental pristine nature.
Healing occurs when we are able to recognise this and to gradually peel away these undesirable layers, exposing little by little the magnificent nature within us. As more and more layers come off, we become truer to our real self, and become happier with who we are as a result.
We function best and are happiest when we are in our element.
